Trusting God in beautiful Corfu!

Hello, and welcome!

Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you are haing a great weekend! In my post: Springtime: Praising God's Creations in Corfu! I shared that after living in Athens, I was in Corfu waiting to bring my cat Charlie back to Wales. (See blog: Blogger: Posts)  And that during that time I started writing for a great site World-wide Bible studies.org founded by a wonderful Christian preacher, Teresa Ortiz. The site had thousands of readers each day and I loved writing for them.

As a trip down memory lane here is the Third of those articles. I hope  you enjoy escaping to Corfu and experiencing a different side of it for a few minutes as much as I have...

Snow-white Lilies Inspiring Trust in God: Be the best you can be! (Matt. 5:48)

It is no longer winter. No matter that the wind blows strongly and dilutes the warmth of the sun. It does not change a thing. It is spring, going-on summer, and my cocooned sojourn on the island of Corfu is almost at an end. I feel it is the right moment to take a little time out from my projects to look backwards to see how far I have come in the last 20 or so years in Greece. To do so, I will head for the hills for a little communing with God in nature.

I set out for a leisurely stroll up and around the pathways in the green rises above the resort. The wildflowers that have been brightening the byways the whole winter – fragile in appearance yet tough in reality - are now handing the task of decoration over to the trees.

The almond was the first to put out tender shell-pink petals, soon followed by the golden counterpoint of forsythia. But as we near Easter it is the Judas tree, thickly stippled with cerise flowers, that brightens the landscape. That tree is so called here because the Greeks say that it was on it that Judas hung himself [Mat. 27:5] and that the tree blushed for shame – hence its colour.

As I walked I spied the occasional stand of tall snow-white lilies. (I have never seen these grow wild before, didn’t know they did, but they are all over the island.) These always remind me of when I had made my decision to take a career break in 1992 to focus on my writing. (I never went back to that job!) I had been worrying about money but in my mind Jesus’ words, “Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.” [Mat. 6:28-29] And I knew that one way or another the funds would come to keep body and soul together. They did… I now live in hope that things will come together when I return home to Wales. I ask for your prayers. I look forward to posting some Bible-based thoughts from Gilfach Gogh in the near future.

I wonder if Jesus' quote about lilies has helped you through a tough decision. I'd love to hear about it if you'd like to share.

God bless,

Teresa x

I have been asking God for guidance and listening to His replies for many years. I share my methods in Pray Then Listen, A heart-to-heart with God.

A great review:

I am being blessed by Pray Then Listen. It has become a valued part of my prayer time.

Set on the green and beautiful Greek island of Corfu in this novel I show the ever-present backstory of life, as I interpret the supernatural elements of our dilemmas and choices.

I know, that no matter what your beliefs or experiences, you will surely recognize the tussles of my characters, as tussles in your own life....  Enjoy!

A great endorsement:

Take this book down to the beach in the morning, and I guarantee when you return sunburnt to your room at the end of the day you will see no one around you, from waiters to fellow holidaymakers, in the same way. The characters seeking escape amidst the idyllic beauty of Corfu never manage to shake off the problems they have run from, while O’Driscoll beautifully captures the intrigues of a tightly knit traditional Greek community.

Here's a great review: I was ill for a couple of years and had a great loss in my life. This book brought so much peace to me and even though I had been angry with God and blamed him for all my troubles, I found my way back to my relationship with him.
