Hello dear friend in Christ,
I hope you are keeping well! It is a happy day for churches in England as they are allowed to open for Holy Mass. The fact that Covid-19 secure rules apply is a good thing as it keeps people as safe as possible from the virus. From next Sunday in Wales churches will also be able to conduct services.

Today, in the liturgical calendar of the Church, it is the Sixteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time. The Communion Antiphon today is the above Bible quotation: Rev 3:20. Remember that it is a quote dear to my heart. So much so that I wrote a book based on its foundation. (See details below.)

I want to draw your attention to a publication called the Catholic People. It is the official newspaper of the Archdiocese of Cardiff and is edited by Dr James Campbell. I am blessed to have a regular column in it. This month my column concerns remembering the constant presence of the Holy Spirit Who will see you through every aspect of your life - the good times and the bad times. Among other features in this issue you will see how churches and the Church have been coping in lockdown. If you want to join other Christians on our journey towards getting to know God better you could say this prayer, or one of your own:

“Dear Heavenly Father, I want so much to know You better. Please help me to understand that you are always with me, waiting patiently for me to welcome You into my daily challenges and choices. I ask this in the name of Your Son Jesus Christ. Amen.”

Getting to Know Him! - Part Two

From one man [God] created all races of mankind and He made them live throughout the whole earth. He himself fixed beforehand the exact times and limits of the places where they would live. He did this so that they would look for Him, and perhaps find Him as they felt about for Him.

Dear friend in Christ,

In lock down, where we have been living apart from each other in order to prevent the spread of the potentially lethal Covid-19 virus, many people have finally had the opportunity to be still for a while and have listened to Christ's gentle knocking on the door of their hearts - which is what the above painting by Holman Hunt is depicting.  They have been reaching out by watching or listening to church services, and so on. Many of these people have never even been inside a church.

If you are among those newly reaching out to Jesus for answers and help you may, perhaps, be feeling perplexed about your decision to do this. But. If you read the above Bible quote you can see clearly that this has always been His intention.

From your birth He has been waiting for you to turn to Him. To let Him share your life and to guide you through the good times, bad times, and everything in between. And only when you do that can you achieve your full potential. Until you know what He wants you to do on earth you will never be truly happy or fulfilled!

Start to open out to Christ’s guidance by saying this prayer, or one of your own, Dear Heavenly Father,  I want to get to know You better. Please will you share my life and guide me in all of my decisions? I ask this through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen

Calling all pro-life believers: please pray today...

On Monday 6 July 2020, MPs could change the course of abortion history in our country. If amendments to the Domestic Abuse Bill are passed, we will see the worst evil in our country since the passing of the 1967 Abortion Act.

Bishop John Sherrington of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Westminster has said that events on Monday could “leave the U.K. with the most extreme abortion legislation in Europe".

Rallying Christians a few weeks ago to oppose the extreme abortion regime now legalised in Guernsey, Bishop Philip Egan of the RC Diocese of Portsmouth said: “Every child conceived in the womb is God-given. Every child is willed personally by God. Every child is placed on earth by God for a purpose...”

Now is the time for all pro-lifers of faith to cry out to God to bring justice for unborn children and their mothers on Monday 6 July 2020.

...And contact your MP

For those who have not yet done so, we also need you to contact your MP.

The Speaker is expected to select the amendments to be debated by about 1.30pm on Monday. He will then announce which amendments will be voted on at about 9pm. There is still time to influence your MP's vote.

Please email your MP urgently and ask him or her to vote against New Clauses 28 and 29 if they are selected on Monday. Full details on what to say to your MP can be found here.

Getting to Know Him! Part One

Dear friend in Christ,

I hope that you are coping well in these difficult times. I pray that, like me, you are staying as close to God as you possibly can. None of us knows how our whole life will unfold but if we walk with Jesus He will help us through everything!

Polls have shown that during lockdown a quarter adults in the UK have tuned into church services. In other words, when the chips are down they have turned to the right person: Jesus Christ!

Many of these people have never even been inside a church. If you identify with that please understand that you are being called by Christ. I know from personal experience that His call is gentle - He will never force Himself into your life. But through this enforced isolation He has the opportunity to catch your attention.

If you are wondering how to get to know Him better you could start by saying this prayer:

“Dear Lord, I am so sorry that I have not paid proper attention to You before. But I am listening now. I want know You. Please show me how to do this. I ask this in the name of Your Son Jesus Christ. Amen.”

Enjoy 15 minutes of respite with God for 9 days and get to feel His love for you.
